With just a few easy ingredients, I have been able to capture that flavor in my own homemade Chicken and Noodles. Really! In fact, this is so good, I would love to just roll around in a vat of it. The flavors are out of this world! Don't believe me? Make this recipe once and you will be hooked for life.
Not only does this recipe have just a few ingredients, you totally get to use your slow cooker to make it. Easy, easy, easy! Start by turning your crock pot on high. Add in 1 can of cream of celery soup, 1 can of cream of chicken soup, 1 can of chicken broth, and a stick of butter.
I'll be the first to admit, what is in the crock pot doesn't look all that great to begin with, but trust me. Mix it all together and then add in your frozen chicken breasts. I used two large breasts, but you can always add more if you love lots of protein. Now walk away. That's right, you have 4 hours to kill. Take a nap, watch a movie, whatever!
After about 4 hours, the chicken will be ready to shred. Simply pull it out of the crock pot and use a fork to shred it up. Once your breast are all nicely shredded (yes, I know that sounded weird) simply dump it all back in the crock pot and wait another hour.
I know that a lot of recipes for Amish style noodles call for frozen noodle. Blah. Since we do live within driving distance to Shipshewana, we are lucky enough out local market carries these fabulous noodles they make near there. If you can't get your hands on this brand (which I love, love, love) try to find a thicker style of egg noodle to use.
Turn your crock pot to low and pour the bag of noodles in. It will seem like there are too many as some will be sticking up out of the liquid, but trust me, put em all in. The noodles will suck up all the liquid and be infused with that yummy goodness. It will take about an hour for the noodles to do their thing. Meanwhile, whip up some mashed potatoes. Trust me, this dish is perfect and traditionally served over mashed potatoes.
Tell me this doesn't look mouth watering!?!? I promise, if you try just one new recipe this year, make it this one. I can't stress to you enough how good this is! Your taste buds will thank you. Your family will thank you. Your waist might not thank you, but tell it to sit down, shut up, and to eat some of these amazing noodles!
