A Week of Homestead Photos March 6th - 12th

I think spring is finally here and here to stay. I heard the spring peepers (frogs) singing last night! Of course I am going to try to remain calm and not start my seeds just yet as I am sure Mother Nature and her frost are lurking somewhere.

We finished up our sugaring season this week. The temps are just getting too warm at night and the ants have found our taps. Not to mention I may or may not have set my sweatpants on fire one day trying to get the evaporator going. No worries, I am fine! We have boiled over a hundred gallons from just our three trees and should end up with just over two gallons of finish maple syrup for the year.

We also have added a couple new members to our flock this week. I love baby chicks! Instead of hatching this year we just hit the feed store for our new friends.

So what made me smile this week?

Duck snuggles with Mr. Bill. He was less then
thrilled, but he took it like a man.

"The pool isn't open yet?!?!" Baby Girl made herself at home
in the sandbox lid with some melted snow at bath time.

I love watching the fire and the smell of burning wood.
Here is to another season of sugaring in the books!

Thank you Buffy and Ester for breakfast. Nothing like fresh eggs!

The joys of childhood, the littlest country kid
and his new BFF, an inch worm.

Grumpy Goldie, doing what Grumpy Goldie does, patrolling
the yard and keeping order, like the good alpha hen she is.

New found friendships. The oldest country kid spending
quality time with Fifi our new Light Brahma chick.

Baby chick. How can you not smile?

He was a tough competitor at farm tic tac toe. Oh who am I kidding,
he took all the barns and tractors and wouldn't let me play.

Remember to take time out of your busy day to find your own things to make you smile!

  1. Two gallons of syrup!! That's amazing! Great pics, again this week! Do so love the baby chicks. When I was a kid, it was my job to take care of the chicks....cleaning, watering and feeding. I loved it! I agree on watching a fire....nothing like it. Have a good week! Dona

  3. What a fun treat to stop by here this Monday morning!

We live near a working historical farm that has tapped the trees along our walk. I love seeing the hoses and the drip, drip, drip of liquid moving through. Deeper in the woods, they have the old time wooden buckets and spigots in the trees.

I love, love, love baby chicks! One time m family and I were at a 4H Fair and I just stood staring at all the chicks and an egg that was in the process of hatching. My family had walked away and I didn't even realize it because I was so engrossed! lol.

The Lord has blessed you abundantly. Thank you for sharing the joy. :-)

    1. I am so ready for warmer weather, but not too warm. Us northern folks don't do well with high temps LOL We are made to make it through a cold snowy winter, not hot and humid summers!
