DIY Corkboard Coasters

No one likes ugly water markers on their tables...... So what do you do? Well if you are over 60 you use a coaster..... If you're under 60 you should use a coaster! But why settle for plain old coasters when you can make your own, in any shape you want, from corkboard?!?

This easy craft can be accomplished with some corkboard (we bought ours at an office supply store), a marker and an utility knife. I wanted rooster coasters so I did a goggle search for an image I liked, printed it off and traced around it. Clip art works best. Just import the image into a word document to adjust the size to what you need.

Once you have your image, simply trace around it on the corkboard. Now it is time to get cutting. I placed a piece of cardboard under the corkboard so I didn't cut my table and grabbed my utility knife. Go slow and use steady pressure as you cut. Images with less detail are so much easier to do. Corkboard can be a crumbly material and if you have lots of little points, they could fall off.

Once I had my image cut out, I sealed it with a homemade solution of half water/half white glue. This gave the coasters a tad more stability (aka all the little pieces don't go chipping off at the edges.) Now tell me these aren't stinking cute! And they are useful!! And just think of the gift giving possibilities with these bad boys! You can totally knock the socks of your family and friends by giving them a homemade gift!
