Fresh Eggs Daily: Raising Happy, Healthy Chickens...Naturally (Book Review and Giveaway)

Recently, I received a copy of Fresh Eggs Daily: Raising Happy, Healthy Chickens...Naturally by Lisa Steele. From the moment you read the introduction, you can tell that this book was written from the heart. Lisa Steele draws readers in, makes them feel comfortable and in an very easy to read manner dispenses her knowledge of herbs and raising chickens. It is as if you are sitting at her kitchen table, sipping a cup of tea and talking with a dear friend.

As someone who has had chickens off and on throughout my life, I enjoyed not only the obvious love Lisa has for her chickens and her dedication to raising them naturally, but the friendly way she guides the reader through all aspects of incorporating herbs into their chicken keeping practices. The author covers every aspect of chicken keeping from coop care, feeding, and health to seasonal changes and physical events and how through simple herbs, the reader can enhance their flocks' quality of life.

As a mother of small children, we raise chickens as a part of our approach to providing better sources of food for our family. And what can be better then fresh eggs? Fresh eggs that come from naturally raised hens. I can tell you without a doubt there are tips and ideas in this book that even I found new, informative and will become a part of our poultry raising practices.

This book is not only overflowing with practical and easy to implement information, it is chocked full of beautiful photographs, each and every one taken by the author.  The recipes and DIY projects through out the book are great family activities and require basic skills. The appendix is a wonderful reference that makes utilizing the knowledge in this book quick and easy. Lisa Steele has brought together a wealth of information in Fresh Eggs Daily that is a must read for chicken keepers of all experience levels.

  10. I have an egg for breakfast every morning. I pan cook it with a little bit of butter, over hard, and then dot it with some super spicy homemade hot sauce. Yum!

  11. My favorite eggs are Eggs Benedict, but since I can't handle that many calories on a regular basis, next best is over medium with extremely well done bacon and sourdough toast.
