Bacon bark, yeah... I said BACON

I want to start out by saying, this was not my idea but an idea from our friends over at Farmhouse38. When my hubby heard about it he was ready to whip some up. It has bacon in it so who wouldn't want some. I shared with him Kate's blog post on making bacon bark. As with any recipe, my hubby has to put his own spin on it. So here is our version of Kate's bacon bark.......

1 packages store-bought bacon, no special flavor, cooked crispy
2 sticks of margarine because that is what we had
1 cup brown sugar
1 packages semi-sweet chocolate chips

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. We lined our cookie sheet with wax paper since we found out we were short on tinfoil. We broke up our cooked bacon into pieces and made a layer across the cookie sheet with them.

In a saucepan over medium heat, hubby melted the "butter." As soon as it was melted, he added the brown sugar, stirring till it dissolved. Stir, stir, stir so it doesn't burn. When it was caramel brown color and kind of "fluffy" ( Kate said "after about 5 minutes"), hubby poured it over the bacon pieces on the cookie sheet.

From there out he did as Kate's recipe stated....

"Pop the sheet into the oven for 5 minutes, then take it out and pour your two (we used 1) bags of chocolate chips evenly across the top of the caramel-bacon mixture. Pop it back in the oven for another 5 minutes.

Take it back out of the oven and then use a spatula to gently smooth the schmelty chocolate chips out.

Put the whole sheet in the freezer for a few hours to set. Remove from the freezer, peel the tinfoil (wax paper in our case) off, and break the bark into pieces to serve"

Hubby did NOT use sea salt on ours. Again, we didn't have any! After his first piece, hubby exclaimed "this is absolutely amazing!" Later we shared some with a neighbor who first sniffed it and looked at us like we were nuts. But after she ate it.... BIG SMILE!!!!

Thank you so much Kate for posting this amazing recipe on you Farmhouse38 blog!
